First Time...Blogging That Is

Hello to the blogsphere! I've been meaning to try this for some time, so here goes nothin'...
I've been on a writing hiatus for some time now and I'm hoping that this will get me back in the saddle, so to speak.  As an added bonus, this gives me a similar feeling to diary/journal writing, which was a staple acitivity in my life for many, many years growing up, but lost once I entered college.  Anywho, let's clear up a few things about me so I don't dive head first into my daily life and leave you feeling more confused than after watching an episode of Lost.  I have been married for about a year and a half now and we are expecting our first child, Elena, in just a few short weeks! For the past eight or so months, my life has been consumed with a job in the customer service end of the cable business, anything and everything baby related, and still being somewhat of a newlywed.  My husband is also in the National Guard (one deployment under his/our belt), which always provides for interesting material to write or talk about.  That's the basic tidbits of my life, as interesting or uninteresting as you may find it to be.
Okay, now that you've got the basics, we can dive right into the present!
Today has been the perfect Sunday, that kind of weekend day that you wish for every Friday as you get off work, but rarely end up getting due to unforseen circumstances.  My husband and I went to lunch with some friends at a local Mexican food place.  One thing on my mind from that experience: shredded chicken. Has anyone else noticed that shredded chicken from a tex-mex place smells strangely like canned chicken cat food? Ah, well, regardless of that unfortunate observation and assault on my senses, it was still a good time.  Follow that up with some incredible ice cream (laugh all you want at the cliche picture in your mind of a pregnant woman inhaling ice cream straight out of the tub, it doesn't hurt my feelings one bit) and an afternoon movie and you've got the perfect weekend day.  It also helps that yesterday I had my baby shower and got tons and tons of amazing stuff for Elena from my wonderful family and friends :)
Another thing on my mind lately is the unfortunate slow death of my writing.  I literally haven't written a single word on any creative endeavor in months, possibly going on a year.  My passion in life, the one thing that has always given me a sense of fullfillment, has slowly been rotting away.  It's gotten to the point that I'm terrified I will never get to do what I really love, something I feel like I was born to do.  Am I just letting my everyday distractions get the best of me, or am I settling for a 9-5 life? I know I'm still young, but I can't let my dream fade away.  So, if this blog helps bring life to my practically dead (or is it just dormant) writing career, then I'm going to be the best damn blogger you've ever seen!
Until tomorrow...
